Books

Introduction to Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy: A comprehensive overview By Patti Mandrell, M.Ed., LPC, EAGALA Advanced Certified. Textbook that can be used for college curriculums and provides an overview of theoretical foundations and information on EAP. There are topics for discussion at the end of each chapter. Walking the Way of the Horse by Ms. Leif Hallberg The author has done an impressive job at attempting to define the practices in the field of equine facilitated/assisted mental health and education. She has added to the confusing alphabet soup of acronyms in this field by creating her own, based on her extensive research. As a practioner in the field since 1998, I found some of the definitions confusing based on my own experience and understanding of the foundations of the field. This text asks good questions and delivers passionate answers which, in my experience seem influenced by the philosophical foundations of the NARHA/EFMHA organization and its members. While this is not a bad thing, it is a bias. Delivering this text to students promotes this bias rather than educating in a balanced view. The text [ABOVE] used at Texas Tech University, written by Patty Mandrell, M.Ed, LPC, Introduction to Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy: A comprehensive overview, is recommended to balance the learning experience of students in this field. Hallberg’s work is well-researched and well-written. It is an asset to our field. QUICK START GRANT WRITING by LEANA BOWMAN. $15 ~~Write a WINNING GRANT with help from an author of $5M winning grants for various organizations.
